"2 books I made with Bella Thewes: Wildplukken (Foraging) and Plant als medicijn (plant as medicine). Bella is an Amsterdam-based photographer from Scotland. It was great working with her.
The first book: Wildplukken, asked a flexibel time-schedule. And a flexible mind. The book is about foraging wild and eatable plants. In the morning I picked the plants and drove directly to Bella, so she could make the photo of the plant. After that I made a medicine from it and she took the pictures of the making proces and the medicine itself.
She has a beautiful and intuitive way of making the pictures. She prefers using daylight, and the pictures are of a rare delicate natural beauty. I think it is quite difficult to photograph plants, because it can be quite dull and difficult to make an interesting image. But she was able to make a beautiful picture of all of them. They are all beautiful plant portraits.
I love working with Bella because she is a quiet, hardworking person who really concentrates on the job.
She is cooperative and likes to think with me about the best image possible."
